August National Hunt Sale Review Day 1

Tattersalls August National Hunt Sale Review

  • A very poor showing on day 1 of Tattersalls August National Hunt Sale with more than half of those offered failing to sell.
  • Out of the 300 horses catalogued, only 115 of them sold. 
  • The Average was down 10% to €4,654 and the Median was down 14% to €3,000.

 

Day 1 

  • The top lot was bought by trainer Oliver Brady for €27,000 from Grange Stud. The 3yo is a son of Milan from the family of dual winning daughter of Strong Gale and who also produced the Champion Hurdle winner and Gold Cup runner-up Night Nurse.
  • English trainer Ben Case paid €22,000 for a 3yo son of Court Cave (a really well bred, unraced son of Sadler's Wells) and is from the same family as prolific winner Super Franky and the smart novice chaser Troubled Times.
  • Another to go to €22,000 was Kevin O'Brien for a 3yo son of Presenting. He is a grandson of Mtoto and is out of the Phardante mare The Last Bank, who has produced Linnel, the Gr 3 placed novice chaser and a winning point-to-pointer. He is also a half-sister to the 19-times winner Nancy Myles.
  • A 3yo King’s Theatre filly from Pipe View Stud, was bought by Gerry Keane for €15,000. She is a half-sister to Irish Grand National winner Organisedconfusion for Arthur Moore. 
  • Willie O’Neill bought a son of the classy Bandari who is a half-brother to 11 times winner and Gr 1 placed chaser Ashwell Boy, for €15,000.
  • Felix Talbot paid €14,500 for a Flemensfirth filly out of a half sister to the Gr.3 winner Splendour. 
  • A Definite Article gelding who is the first foal out of the useful 4 time winning jumper and Gr.3 placed Desperado Queen, was bought by John Paul Brennan for €13,000. He also comes from the same family as the Gr.1 placed novice chaser Let Yourself Go.
  • Johnny Hurley paid €13,000 for a 3yo Classic Cliche gelding who is a half-brother to the high class chaser and multiple Gr.1 placed Somersby. 
  • Michael Hyde bought a 3yo filly by Oscar for €12,500. She is out of an unraced Heron Island full sister to the Gr.2 bumper winner Crocodiles Rock.
  • Cork-based trainer John Joe Walsh bought a son of Zagreb for €12,000 and is a half-brother to 4 winners, inclucing the Gr.2-placed novice hurdler, Mackeys Forge.
  • Nina Carberry bought a 3yo Shantou gelding for €12,000. He is out of a mare by Son Of Silver, whose progeny include the Listed winning French chaser Leonard Des Champs.
  • Gerry Griffin also paid €12,000 for a Brian Boru gelding and Paul Cashman also paid the same for a Presenting 3yo from Clintown House Stud.
